A Great Fortune to Be in His Care

I had the good fortune to have the association of Srila Bhakti Ballabha Tirtha Maharaja. His spiritual master, His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhava Maharaja was kind enough to allow me to stay in his ashram in Kolkata. He personally 
put me in the care of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Ballabha Tirtha Maharaja while I was there.

Later, His Divine Grace Bhakti Dayita Madhava Maharaja was made a trustee of AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Charity Trust. After his departure to the spiritual world, His Divine Grace Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Maharaja was kind enough to continue the role of being a trustee of the AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Trust.

It was customary that he would speak some Harikatha on the occasion of our meeting of those meetings He would speak so that we would all be reminded of our primary purpose of Krishna Consciousness to serve the Pancha Tattva with words, thoughts, and deeds.

From then on, year after year, I met with him to work out strategies on how to preserve the holy places of our culture.

It was interesting to see and very enlivening how Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Maharaja was preaching in many parts of India and overseas as well. He had his followers in Punjab and other faraway states of India and he was also preaching in Russia and other places.

It was so nice to see that he had a very active preaching spirit. I was fortunate to visit His Divine Grace Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Maharaja on the occasion of his fiftieth anniversary of taking sannyasa and also on other occasions he would welcome me in his private quarters to discuss bhakti-yoga, the development of Navadvipa Dham, and the expanding of Gauranga’s culture all over the world.

Having his association left a big impression upon me. You could see that he was very much dedicated to spreading the message of Lord Caitanya. It is with great respect and great enthusiasm that I am offering this at his lotus feet on the occasion of this Vyasa Puja Celebration.

It may be noted that Srila Gurudev honored Paramgurudeva's order to care for Jaypataka Swami throughout his life. He also continued to serve on the committee of the Sri AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Charity Trust right up until his recent pastimes of withdrawing from external interaction. Sri Jayapataka Swami Maharaj also still visits Srila Gurudev on occasion at Kolkata math.

Guru Mahārāja is not an ordinary person; he is sent by the Supreme Lord to rescue all of us. In the office, if we are working in one place, we may be deputed to another place to do some work. He Could Not Allow His Disciples to Bathe His Feet

Once when we came to Kolkata, we saw Gurujī performing ecstatic kirtana while jumping high in the air. Śrīla Gurudeva was 66 years old at that time.  Param-pūjyapāda Puri Gosvāmī Mahārāja said, “Tirtha Mahārāja is not an ordinary human being. He is the direct associate ( nija-jana ) of the Supreme Lord.” One time I asked Puri Gosvāmī Mahārāja, "You tell one should do sevā of Gurujī, and one should drink the water that washes the lotus feet of Gurujī, but as soon as we go near to him, he gets angry. Once Gurujī went to our guru-bhai Sudhir Kantjī’s house in Bhatinda, He wanted to wash Gurujī’s lotus feet, but Gurujī became very angry." “You will not wash my feet! Capture It in Your Heart

In 2005, I decided to visit Jagannāth Puri for Ratha-yātrā. It was my first visit to any maṭha after harināma . The first thing I did was to equip myself with a film SLR camera anticipating interesting moments and visuals. Every year from then on, the camera always accompanied me, so much so that most of the time, I used to take snapshots more than actually participating. In 2010 or maybe 2011, I was staying in Mumbai. A few devotees wanted to purchase a camera for the maṭha-sevā , and, supposing I knew a bit about cameras, I accompanied them along for the purchase. Some research was done, and we picked up a Canon SLR and a couple of lenses. Soon after that, we went off to Jagannāth Puri. We were excited about the visit.
